European Citizenship and Culture

This year the theme for the meeting of Young Performing Art Lovers during the "Festival Reims Scènes d'Europe" is: "European citizenship and culture".
The goal of this blog is to share, before the beginning of the Festival, with all the young participants, some ideas and issues regarding this subject. We also want to create a debate by giving you enough materials on the issues to be able to talk about it during the Festival.

The first topic we chose is about the Roma Gypsies population. Indeed, the Roma Gypsies are European citizens, have a  strong culture with their way of life, their musics, their dance and other performances. And yet, as we saw in the media, during the last few months, they aren't accepted and most European countries don't integrate them.

It brings us several reflections about European citizenship in general:
How can we protect specific cultural inheritances? What is the role of Europe?
Are there "second rate" citizens in Europe?
Are culture and citizenship two main issues in Europe today?

What do you think about it? Let us comments or post articles on this blog, so we can share our point of view.

Who Are We?

Young Performing Art Lovers is a network of young European spectators launched in December 2009 in Reims on the occasion of the Reims Scènes d’Europe Festival. The activities of this network, and especially the different European gatherings, are made possible thanks to the involvement of professionals, festivals, universities and local authorities who are willing to support young performing art lovers.
